Hi. I’m Colleen!
I love lettering & language, adore adventure, crave creativity & need novelty & nature.
I’m a lettering artist and illustrator based in Vermont. I started my business, Wander on Words, in 2014 and have since grown it to be my full-time career. I have always been drawn to language and, through my art, have enjoyed the journey of adding a deeper layer of illustration to words.
Nature and travel have greatly inspired me and allowed me to discover what resonates with all kinds of people. I have gravitated more toward the weird and peculiar side of language in recent years, and it continues to bring me joy. I strive to keep sharing a positive perspective with others and doodling more light into the world.
Our Story
I have always loved language and been drawn to the outdoors. Growing up, my mom would send me to school with motivational quotes in my lunchbox, so I began collecting them at a young age. I studied photography at the University of Illinois, but snuck in a few design, poetry, and typography courses because I loved playing with words. I worked in Yellowstone National Park after graduating from college, and there I found myself doodling uplifting quotes on every piece of paper I could find. The whole experience of living in such a beautiful, wild place deeply inspired me, and I wanted to share that inspiration with others.
Now, I donate part of my profits each year to the National Park Foundation to help preserve the places of wonder I hold close to my heart. I use my artwork to inspire and rekindle love for nature and language. Hand Lettering is my passion, and I strive to keep an appreciation for the written word and wanderlust alive. I hope that my artwork can brighten days and aid people in expressing themselves, all while working towards preserving our wild and wonderful spaces.
Hailing from Illinois, I have since moved around to Montana, Colorado, Vermont and New Mexico. Currently, I am based out of Pittsfield, Vermont and Taos, New Mexico, though I also travel often. I love exploring new places and discovering hidden gems. In my spare time, you can find me mountain biking, watching movies, listening to ghost stories, hiking with my dog, or eating macaroni and cheese.
